description With its woods, water and wildlife, Walnut Point has it all - from fishing, camping and hiking to picnicking, hunting and bicycling. Located amid a vast agricultural landscape, Walnut Point is an oasis of majestic hardwoods, wildflowers, wildlife, fish and fun. In the spring, the park comes alive with redbuds, wildflowers and songbirds. In the fall, the park's extensive wooded acres dominate the eye with foliage colors that are varied and spectacular. During any time of the year, wildlife viewing opportunities are everywhere. Opened in 1968, the 671-acre park is managed by the Illinois Department of Natural Resources.
drivingDirection Located 3 miles north of Oakland, the park is in close proximity to Interstate 57, US Highway 36 and Illinois Highway 133 -Going North on I-57, use Exit 203 at Arcola. Go east on Illinois Highway 133 to Oakland, Turn north onto Walnut Street, Keep going north, the park is 3 miles from town -Going South on I-57, use Exit 212 at Tuscola. Go east on US Highway 36 until the Oakland and Walnut Point signage, Turn south onto Douglas County Highway 7, the park is 5 miles south of US 36

importantInformation Camping fees are refundable if cancellation notification is received no later than 3 days prior to arrival. Shelter Reservations are non-refundable unless the area is closed by the Department, in this circumstance the Site Manager will contact you prior to your reservation date to cancel and issue your refund. * A responsible adult (18 years of age or older) from the camping party must register for the party and thereby acknowledge compliance with the rules and regulations of the park for the party. * At least one responsible adult must accompany each group of 15 minors. * Special camping rate reductions apply to Illinois residents only. * Group size and number of vehicles cannot exceed the established maximums. For a campsite, a Single Family consisting of 4 related adults with or with children occupying the same shelter are allowed; or a Single Group consisting of 4 unrelated adults with or without children occupying the same shelter are allowed. * May 1 through September 30: The maximum length of camping stay is 14 nights in any 30 day period. * Responsible use of alcohol is permitted in the park and campground, with the exceptions of Fox Tent, Gray Tent and Whippoorwill Group Camp. * All pets must be on a lease. Pet owners are responsible for their animal's waste and must dispose of it properly. * All visitors are required to leave the park at or before 10:00PM. * Groups of 25 or more are required to register in advance with the park office. * We hope you enjoy your stay or event.
